{"id":85,"date":"2006-08-15T22:35:33","date_gmt":"2006-08-16T03:35:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ericgharrison.wordpress.com\/2006\/08\/15\/verizon-you-just-keep-getting-better-not"},"modified":"2006-08-15T22:35:33","modified_gmt":"2006-08-16T03:35:33","slug":"verizon-you-just-keep-getting-better-not","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ericgharrison.com\/?p=85","title":{"rendered":"Verizon, you just keep getting better&#8230; not&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"msgcns!E4092A968B7C1A54!211\" class=\"bvMsg\">\n<div>I swear, this site isn&#8217;t supposed to be &quot;all complaining, all the time&quot;, but poor customer service seems to follow me around these days.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Due to some problems with sending faxes over a VOIP solution (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.vonage.com\">Vonage<\/a>, I&#8217;m looking at you), we&#8217;ve decided to add a &quot;normal&quot; phone line to our residence.\u00a0 Being the 21st century kind of guy that I am, I decided to order the phone line over that new fangled Internet thingy.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>At 2am on Monday morning, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verizon.com\">Verizon<\/a> web site insisted that my apartment didn&#8217;t exist.\u00a0 Believe it or not, I can understand this.\u00a0 We live in a brand new apartment complex, and it&#8217;s not unusual to run into this problem.\u00a0 I figured I would call Verizon during the day and get the line ordered.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Naturally, I didn&#8217;t manage to do it, so this evening I decided to give it another try on the web site.\u00a0 I entered our address, and this time it came up with a match!\u00a0 Woohoo!\u00a0 Wait a minute, I don&#8217;t live in apartment 101, I live in apartment 107.\u00a0 Hmmm, I thought that perhaps I had fat fingered the apartment number, so I back up a page and look.\u00a0 Nope, I entered 107 correctly.\u00a0 Weird.\u00a0 Click &quot;next&quot;, click &quot;no I need to correct my address&quot;, and then reenter it.\u00a0 Click next.\u00a0 Now the page is different.\u00a0 It still shows apartment 101, but it now shows options for adding services to the existing phone line, as well as an option for changing the address.\u00a0 Being a curious sort, I click on the option to change the address again, and it does nothing.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Peachy, I figure I&#8217;ll drop Verizon a note to let them know that their web site is confusing me with an existing customer.\u00a0 I go to their contact form, fill out a couple of fields, tell them I&#8217;m not a customer, write a full set of notes describing the issues.\u00a0 I figure they won&#8217;t fix it if they don&#8217;t know it&#8217;s broken, so I&#8217;ll let them know (again, I&#8217;m just that kind of guy).\u00a0 When I try to submit the page, an error message pops up and says I must enter a valid Area Code.\u00a0 Huh?\u00a0 There is no area code on the form.\u00a0 However, if I change the form to indicate that I&#8217;m an existing customer then\u00a0area code and\u00a0phone number fields show up.\u00a0 Okay, I put in the area code for this area, toggle it back to me not being a customer and try to save.\u00a0 No joy.\u00a0 Now I must provide a valid phone number.\u00a0 Um, guys, I&#8217;m looking to get me one of those new fangled phones, I don&#8217;t have a number.\u00a0 Fine, I&#8217;ll enter a valid phone number, just don&#8217;t try to actually call me at 555-1212&#8230;<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Finally, I hit save again, and this time I faced with:<\/div>\n<div>&quot;Internal Server Error &#8211; Read<\/div>\n<div>The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request&quot;.<\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Welcome to 1998.\u00a0 The sad thing is that I can&#8217;t deny them my business, because the solution that I have in place is already &quot;the alternative&quot; and it doesn&#8217;t work.\u00a0 <\/div>\n<div>\u00a0<\/div>\n<div>Happy Tuesday!
