The Tesla Files

One of my cars is electric, and I’m used to people bringing up how bad battery fires can be (especially my dad). The facts on the ground are that electric cars burn far less often than gasoline powered ones, but some of the details in The Tesla Files sound truly horrific – not just the crashes, but being trapped inside after the crash (an even larger concern in the CyberTruck due to it’s ‘unbreakable’ windows?).

I’m not sure if this is blown out of proportion (as my Tesla owning friends would insist), or if there are deeply scary issues with full self driving and Tesla’s that other electrics don’t suffer from. Right now there probably aren’t enough cars with advanced automation to really get a sense of it. Ford, GM, BMW, and Mercedes have pretty advanced tech stacks for self-driving in their gasoline and electric cars, but just how many are having issues as a percentage of the fleets? Is this being reported in this way because it’s Tesla?

Time will tell.
